In the project Wings & Masks, women in detention work closely together with residents from the neighborhood around Haren prison. Together, they explore themes such as expression, identity, and solidarity. This unique collaboration bridges the inside and outside world, placing the emphasis on encounter and connection.
Masks as a symbol of resistance
Participants create masks inspired by the use of balaclavas in feminist protest movements. Through handcraft and personal touches, each mask takes on a unique character and story of its own.
Posing anonymously for the camera creates space to celebrate femininity and individuality. The photo portraits give expression to resilience and defiance.
